Monte Carlo simulation of resonance effects of electron transport in a spatially modulated electric field in Ar, N2 and their mixtures

Abstract The relaxation of the distribution function electrons drifting under influence a homogeneous electric field in noble gases is known to take place over an extended spatial domain at ‘intermediate’ values reduced field, E / N . We investigate transport Ar and 2 gases, as well their mixtures such (∼10–40 Td). After discussing briefly basic scenario major part work concentrates on properties that spatially modulated within finite region obeys periodic boundaries. mean velocity, energy, density electrons, importance excitation channels, electron energy are obtained from Monte Carlo simulations for various lengths computational domain, different degrees modulation field. At low modulations, profiles velocity nearly harmonic, however phases with respect perturbation exhibit complex behaviour parameters. With increasing modulation, higher harmonic content these observed high modulations where reversal occurs, we observe trapping significant population electrons. effect mixing molecular gas, , characteristics also examined. Transition local admixture concentrations long domains observed.
